Remoov data · 2019 to 2026

Every Remoov pickup marks a household clearing out, moving or downsizing. Seven years of pickup records across San Mateo County show the spring 2020 freeze, a two-year moving boom, a cooler market since, and a shift in which towns the moves come from.

A quick freeze, a two-year boom, then a cooler market

Monthly moving activity on the Peninsula, compared with an average month in 2019. Moves nearly stopped in spring 2020, recovered by summer, and ran well above normal through 2021 and 2022. They settled back to 2019 levels in 2023 and 2024, and have run below them since 2025.

About the data

This analysis uses completed Remoov pickups: households that booked and had items removed. Each pickup in San Mateo County is placed in one of eight areas and counted by the month it happened. Pickups track people clearing out homes: moving away, moving in, downsizing or redecorating.

Remoov’s own growth, marketing and pricing affect how many pickups it does, so every chart here shows shares and percentages rather than totals. The Peninsula sees fewer pickups than San Francisco, so single years can swing, and smaller areas’ percent changes run larger; the change map pools two years for most periods to steady them. East Palo Alto shares a zip code with part of Palo Alto, so it is left out. The map stops just south of Half Moon Bay; the few pickups along the rural south coast count toward Pacifica & the Coastside.
